WHAT A WEDDING! Couple Employs Owl As Ring Bearer

One unconventional bride and groom decided to enlist an owl as their ring bearer, having the bird fly down the aisle to deliver their wedding bands.

The bride and groom married on a ranch in Lebanon, Oregon, and asked Cascade Raptor Center – a non-profit that rescues wildlife – if they could borrow an owl for their big day.

The couple posted a teaser image from the wedding to Reddit with the caption: ‘So, we had an owl deliver our wedding rings to the altar. Here we all are after the ceremony.’

The owl, named Dmitri, was accompanied to the wedding by his trainer Kit Lacey, and had a tracker on one of his legs in case he decided to fly off with the couple’s rings.

According to the bride, who posted the picture, the couple did two run-throughs on the venue grounds before the big day.

But, as she explained, ‘he’s still a wild animal, and you can’t make him do what he doesn’t want to do.’

‘We had wanted him to fly to the altar, but he wasn’t feeling it [on the day]. So the trainer walked him to the best man who took the rings from a pouch that Dmitri had attached to his leg.’

After the ceremony, Dmitri’s trainer was able to get him to hop onto the groom’s arm glove for a photo.

While she wouldn’t reveal how much the couple paid to have Dmitri present, the bride said what they paid ‘goes to the non-profit Raptor Center that rescues and rehabilitates wild animals. It’s a great cause.’

But how did they come up with idea in the first place?

‘I wanted the owl and my husband wanted a bald eagle,’ the bride admitted. ‘But we couldn’t find a trained bald eagle.’

So, we had an owl deliver our wedding rings to the altar. Here we all are after the ceremony.”
