A couple have joined the few to celebrate their Oak wedding anniversary after an incredible 80 years of marriage.
Devoted Maurice, 102, and Helen Kaye, 101, tied the knot in 1934 – four years after they met as teenagers.
Helen said: “It’s been a wonderful marriage – if I knew the secret, I would bottle it and sell it.”
Maurice fell for Poland-born Helen when he visited her father’s clothing business as a travelling salesman.
The couple settled in South London before Maurice joined the Army when war broke out.
But their home was destroyed by bombing in 1944 and they moved to Bournemouth, Dorset.
They have lived there ever since and ran a chain of five clothing shops.
Sadly, two of their four children died young but they have a surviving son and daughter, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Helen added: “We’ve battled our way through life, it’s been hard work and not without tragedy, but we’ve had so many good moments together.”
The couple, who still enjoy regular manicures, are six years, nine months off the world-record longest marriage.
