Different campaigns have gained prominence across social media in the past few years about the Girl Child in Nigeria, and this has given rise to the need to pay special attention to them. From #ChildNotBride, to #BringBackOurGirls and #FreeEseOruru, we have seen how endangered the girl child is in our society. This is not to even mention the plethora of others who were not lucky enough to be given such massive national interest and fight.
In view of this, we need to ask some questions like ‘Who will fight for the Girl Child?’, ‘What can we do to protect the Girl Child in Nigeria?’, ‘How can we help the girl child from falling into prey?’. It is however important to note that these questions are not just rhetoric, they require active answers. The people saddled with providing answers to these questions are Parents, Schools, Learning Centres, The Government, Religious Societies, Traditional Institutions and of course, NGOs – this is why a foundation like the IRANWO INITIATIVE was formed.
Iranwo initiative Is a foundation that works with the girl child. Their aim is to provide formal education for and also make leaders and entrepreneurs out of the rural girl child.
Presently, Iranwo Intiative trains girls in Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos state. Some of the trainees have never been to school while some are drop outs due to reasons such as financial constraint, lack of basic educational materials, compulsory repetition of classes etc. Iranwo intends to enroll this girls into school in the new academic year.
However, the foundation currently lacks the capacity to cater to a large amount of these girls. Hence, it seeks the collaboration of members of the public in providing certain needs for the girls, some of which are;
*School uniforms
*Textbooks (Nursery, basic1,2,3,4,7,8,)
*Socks and sandals
*Notebooks and stationary
*Daily feeding allowances
*Transportation fare
*Registration fee
The foundation therefore implores individuals and organizations to invest in the girls’ dreams.
HOW?
- An individual /organization may provide any of the aforementioned needs eg Textbooks, notebooks etc.
An individual /organization may pledge a certain amount of money beginning from 500 to be given to the organisation monthly towards assisting our girls.
An individual /organization may provide a certain amount of money if he/she cannot make a monthly pledge.
Iranwo relies on the assistance of our donors towards providing the girls needs.
